Hello friends,
Sadly, I am no longer on vacation. I am back to my 9 to 5 on a daily basis and it is not as fun as jumping in the pool or looking for fishies in the beach. It’s always bittersweet when I come back from my beautiful island because as much as I enjoy life in New York (this is said very loosely), I also wish I spent more time in my country. I’ve been living in New York for almost 20 years (this August) and though I consider it home, my heart belongs to the motherland. There’s so much tranquility waking up to the sun peaking through your window (as someone who hates the sun), drinking your coffee while holding grandmas hand, picking fruit from a tree on your way to the market, stopping on the freeway to buy coconuts from the local vender — drinking the water out of a straw and eating the meat with a makeshift spoon we cut off from the husk. Gosh… it’s blissful.
Fortunately we arrived during the basketball playoffs and we were able to watch my friend play in the finale. Though his team lost it was so fun seeing everyone in the community pack into the outdoor court, cheering, laughing, drinking and dancing. But, alas, I must return to reality… Luckily, I have these titles down below to look forward to…
Quicksilver by Callie Hart
Fantasy | Dystopia — June 4, 2024 (Fae &Alchemy #1)
“When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares…but it turns out they’re real, and Saeris has landed herself right in the middle of a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed.”
— As a judger of covers, this art sucked me right in. I’m assuming the boy on the cover is our mmc and man does he look haunting (& oh-so-hot). He kinda reminds me of this art piece I have in my room of this haunted looking girl … maybe I should make this into a poster so she has a companion. Either way, I can already tell I’m adding another brooding man to my list of fictional boyfriends — oh well.

One-Star Romance by Laura Hankin
(Adult) Romance | Contemporary | Chick Lit — June 18, 2024
“A struggling writer is forced to walk down the aisle at her best friend’s wedding with the man who gave her book a very public one-star rating”
— I loved Hankin’s Happy and You Know it (rated it 5 stars) so I can’t wait to dive into this story. I love stories centered around writers but most especially when we force them to be near people who aren’t fans of their work.

Middle of the Night by Riley Sager
(Adult) Thriller | Mystery | Horror — June 18, 2024
“In the latest jaw-dropping thriller from New York Times bestselling author Riley Sager, a man must contend with the long-ago disappearance of his childhood best friend—and the dark secrets lurking just beyond the safe confines of his picture-perfect neighborhood.”
— We are Sager STANS in this house. I own almost every single one of his books. And, though some may be hit or miss, I thoroughly enjoy my thriller experience with him each time. This man has a talent for the creepy-crawlies so I have very high hopes for this.

Carved in Ice and Glass by R.L. Perez
Fantasy | Romance | Retelling — June 5, 2024
“A princess in exile.
An assassin sent to kill her.
A twisted fae bargain binds them together.”
— There’s absolutely nothing else to say about this. A PRINCESS?? AN ASSASSIN?? HE HAS TO KILL HER?? BINDING THROUGH BARGAINS?? AGHHHH!!!

The Eyes Are the Best Part by Monika Kim
(Adult) Horror | Thriller — June 25, 2024
“Feminist psychological horror about the making of a female serial killer from a Korean-American perspective.”
— So many of my favorite things are mixed into this. Feminism… psychological storytelling… female serial killers (fictional, of course)… Korean dramas. This is a recipe for a 5 star read. I AM SAT. I’m also so curious to see what the title has to do with the story. Take a wild guess…

The Memo by Rachel Dodes & Lauren Mechling
(Adult) Fantasy | Time Travel — June 18, 2024
“If you could rewrite your life story, would you dare? That’s the question at the heart of this charming and propulsive debut novel about love, life, and a woman finding herself and what it means to be happy and successful.”
— As someone on a mission to figure out what success and happiness means to me this book immediately piqued my interest. I love reading stories centered around the current happenings in my life. Not only do they expose me to a new perspective but sometimes they even make me reflect on areas I pushed aside.

Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood
(Adult) Romance | Contemporary — June 11, 2024
“A forbidden, secret affair proves that all’s fair in love and science.”
— Hazelwood can do no wrong in my eyes. She made me love stories centered around science so I can’t wait to have my feet kicking and my cheeks red.

A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston
(Adult) Romance | Contemporary | Magical Realism — June 25, 2024
“A professor of literature finds herself caught up in a work of fiction… literally.”
— One of my favorite shows is Once Upon a Time and I’ve always wondered what it would be like to step into a small town straight out of a fictional world. I will be living vicariously through Eileen for the foreseeable future… Don’t mind me.

Heiress Takes All by Austin Siegemund-Broka & Emily Wibberley
(YA) Mystery | Contemporary — June 4, 2024
“The Inheritance Games meets Ocean's 11 in this thrilling YA adventure about a teenager determined to pull off the perfect heist in the midst of her father’s wedding.”
— I was catching up on one of my favorite blogs when I saw they uploaded a review to this novel. I immediately read through their five-star review and added this book to my TBR.

Seven Summer Weekends by Jane L. Rosen
(Adult) Romance | Contemporary — June 4, 2024
“A woman inherits a beach house, along with a series of weekend guests, while butting heads with the irritable (and irritatingly handsome) man next door.”
— Let me tell you something, I am a SUCKER for these kinds of stories. Whether it’s a book, series, or movies I will eat it up every. single. time. I’m obsessed with small town living so this trope is always a cozy entertainment for me. Out of all of these titles, I’m most excited about Seven Summer Weekends so expect a mini review to hit your inbox soon. And yes, I will be imagining the mmc as Chad Michael Murray (can you blame me?).

All The Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker
(Adult) Mystery | Thriller — June 25, 2024
“A missing person mystery, a serial killer thriller, a love story, a unique twist on each, Chris Whitaker has written a novel about what lurks in the shadows of obsession, and the blinding light of hope.”
— Serial Killer Thriller. A Love Story. Shadows of Obsession. Missing Person.

Love Letters to a Serial Killer by Tasha Coryell
(Adult) Mystery | Thriller — June 25, 2024
“An aimless young woman starts writing to an accused serial killer while he awaits trial and then, once he’s acquitted, decides to move in with him and take the investigation into her own hands.”
— Anyone who knows me knows that I am obsessed with true crime. I am indeed the kind of girl that voluntarily listens to true crime podcasts at 6 am so this story is right up my alley. I also love when stories include letters and notes (idk if this is a trope or something but I need more books with letters).
