Hi friends,
Can you believe the first week of fall has already passed? It was so lovely with all the rain and cloudy skies. I found myself walking slower to fully bask in the rain droplets and embrace the sense of rebirth that comes with each storm. Anyway, I wanted to share some exciting news with you. I finally registered for the November LSAT! It's still kind of hard to believe, but I'm super proud of myself for taking this big step. After I graduated, I took a gap year because I was feeling burnt out and lost my passion for my career goals. But luckily, I've found my love for the profession again and am finally taking the steps to get there. It's been a busy few weeks, but I'm excited for what's to come. I'll tell you more about it when we catch up on Chats Over Coffee!
Recently, I was rearranging my shelves, looking through which books I have read and which ones I haven’t. As I perused, I realized there were so many that had been sitting, unread for months, even years. These are books that at one point in my life, I had high hopes for. Today I’ll be sharing with you fourteen books on my physical TBR I really, really hope will become new five-star reads.
One of my goals for the year was to read more physical books that I already own. Sadly, my interests have not caught onto this plan and I’ve been mood-reading various Kindle books with a splash of Libby on the side. My hope for the remaining three months of the year is to read at least ten of my physical books so I can check off this goal come January.
What were some of your reading goals this year?
When it comes to choosing my next read or even purchasing a book, I don’t read blurbs. My favorite thing about reading is going into the story completely blind so I can venture through the plot as the characters do. Aside from reading based on how I feel, I consider the following criteria:
cover art
title
whispers in the community
And since I find going into books completely blind to be the best way to read, I’ll only be sharing the cover with you! However, for those of you who prefer to read what a story is about before splurging (please teach me your money-saving ways) you can easily access their Goodreads by clicking on the image!
In case you missed it, here’s my last post!
Hello Fall 🍂🥮🎃👻
HI FRIENDS! Sorry for screaming at ya, I’m just a teensy-bit excited for the change in season. As many of you know, I’m not a fan of summer whatsoever. It’s too hot and oftentimes a very lazy time for me. My absolute favorite time of the year (& quite honestly where I thrive the most) is fall!!
5 ⭐️ Hopefuls!
Romance | Contemporary — I’ve seen this book circulating Booksta for several months now. From what I’ve gathered, many people love this story and say this enemies-to-lovers romance is kicking feet sweet. | Bookshop
Nonfiction | True Crime — I consider this to be out of the norm for me because I’m not a fan of nonfiction. However, the great thing about this story is that it doesn’t necessarily follow the rules of nonfiction. Some stories are altered to protect the privacy of the people involved. I chose this as a Book of the Month last year and I’m interested to learn more about private investigation. | Bookshop
Book of the Month is a great way to buy some fun adult hardcovers at a reasonable price. Each month you get to choose 1-3 new books or choose from the catalog of books available to receive right at your doorstep!
Fantasy | Young Adult — I bought this book many moons ago for my book club. At the time, I was in one of my mood-reading ruts and didn’t feel like diving into this. But I love Peter Pan so hopefully this retelling will hit the spot! I also think this is one of the prettiest covers I’ve ever seen and it makes me curious about the forest we’re bound to be trapped in. | Bookshop
Mystery | Thriller — Two of my favorite genres packaged in a pretty red book. I remember when this came out almost everyone in the book community was raving about the plot twists. I’ve never read Nita Prose before so I don’t know what to expect, but the cover is giving me 1920s Great Gatsby. | Bookshop
Historical Fiction | Romance — This is another book I got from Book of the Month, I’m not a huge HF fan but I fell in love with the rainy vibes of the cover. | Bookshop
Young Adult | Mystery — When I first got this book, I imagined a group of secluded girls in a boarding school trying to uncover the mysteries surrounding the school. I wasn’t too far off in my speculation because apparently, this story is about a little girl with strange marks who claims to come from this place called “The Sisterhood of the Light”. (I did cheat with this one by reading the blurb when it was gifted to me hehe.) | Bookshop
Fantasy | Young Adult — I am enchanted by this cover alone. I love the surrounding forest and our FMC running down this spiral staircase that seems never-ending. The cover art feels mysterious to me and makes me wonder what she’s running from, who she’s running to, and whether there are vampires. | Bookshop
Thriller | Mystery — Here we have another BOTM that’s been recently adapted into a film for Hulu. From the trailer, this book seems to follow a black woman working in a predominantly white publishing house when suddenly another black woman joins the staff and sends her cryptic, threatening messages. I’m looking forward to reading this book and obviously comparing it to the adaptation. | Bookshop
Mystery | Thriller — This book is a complete mystery to me. I don’t remember buying it and I haven’t seen anyone talk about this at all… Which means I’m in for a thrilling ride!! I love escaping into books that are seemingly unheard of because oftentimes, they end up being the best books I’ve read in a while. I’ll be giving a full report after I read it, but this is definitely in my top three of this list! | Bookshop
Thriller | Mystery — Another top three for me. Everything about this book captivates the reader within me. Not only is it my favorite genre, but the cover alone gives me major Blindspot vibes and the title makes me want to know why this girl IS LIVING TWICE. I’ve also been told this is part of a series so it looks like my TBR is getting longer. | Bookshop
Thriller | Mystery — This story looks like the type to keep you up until 4 am proclaiming “just one more chapter”. I bought this at a huge book sale last year because there was a lady working the sale who told me I wouldn’t be able to put this down. It doesn’t take much to convince me to purchase a book, but the look in her eyes made me add it to my pile immediately. | Bookshop
Romance | Young Adult — When I first joined the book community in May of 2020, this book was on every single platform as a must-read. I finally picked up a copy at that book sale I mentioned earlier, but never actually read it. I’m told Jenn Bennett is a beautiful romance writer so I’m excited to see what this is all about. | Bookshop
Mystery | Thriller — As a lover of mysteries and thrillers, Tana French has always been on my radar for authors to check out. I hear she’s one of the best in the genre so when I saw this at the sale, I had to buy it. | Bookshop
Romance | Young Adult — What I love the most about this (besides the beautiful cover) is the concept behind multiple POVs surrounding our main love interests. I’ve never read a romance written this way so I think it’d be interesting to see this story unfold from so many narrators. | Bookshop
Currently Reading
I entered that stage of every reader’s life where you can’t figure out what you want to read. You end up starting a million books but never actually finishing a single one of them. Recently, I started reading Violet Made of Thorns by Gina Chen, New Moon by Stephenie Meyer, and A Certain Appeal by Vanessa King. I actually think all three of these have a good start, I’m just not mentally in the mood to sit down and finish them. But, we’ll see which one grasps my attention long enough to reach the end.
