Q1 Show Rotation
The 9 Shows I'll be watching
Hello friends,
Last year I decided to try out a quarterly show rotation to take the guess work out of what to watch. I know we’ve all been there where we’re trying to figure out what to watch while we eat and we end up scrolling for entirely too long that our food gets cold. At first, I thought it’d be too restricting or boring but it turned out to be the complete opposite. I am notorious for binge watching shows I’ve already watched a million times and piling my watch later folder with hundreds of programs I never get to. But having this quarterly rotation has helped me beat that. I still get to rewatch all my favorites while catching up on new seasons, getting to my watch later, and diving a little into each of the genres I love.
I decided I wanted to keep doing these quarterly show rotations and I’ve even added a new genre — anime. I’ve watched a couple anime here and there throughout my life but it’s not something I usually pick up. I excuse it by saying that I want to read the manga first (which, true), but realistically, I’m missing out on great shows. It’s very unlikely that I’ll read every single manga for every anime I want to watch, so I might as well just watch and figure it out later. If there are any anime you love, please let me know! Without further ado, keep scrolling to check out which shows I’ll be bingeing this quarter.
K-Drama
Considering the fact that Arrow is my favorite show, it’s no surprise I have a special soft spot for vigilante tropes in shows. I was so excited when I found this K-Drama that I refused to let it sit in my watch later for long. Though I’m not familiar with Nam Joo-hyuk’s work, there are some actors in this cast that I recognize from Bloodhounds and Money Heist: Korea. Vigilante gives me similar vibes to My Name which I watched (and loved) about 2 years ago. Though here Kim Jiyong isn’t seeking revenge against one particular person, we’re sure to be enthralled in these 8 action packed episodes.
Drama
Once Upon A Time is one of my all time favorite shows (probably top 5 if I’m being honest) and the evil queen was my absolute favorite character. Lana Parrilla is such a talented actress who expertly showcases emotions and really makes you believe she’s the character she’s portraying. A couple months ago I came across this trailer and knew I needed more of Parrilla’s talent on my screen. I’ve noticed that in the past year or so, there have been so many law related dramas dropping on every streaming service so I’m hoping this one is a good one that I can return to every couple months. At the moment I’m not sure if The Rainmaker will be picked up for another season but I’ll let you know if it’s worth checking out.
Marvel
I have been shamefully behind on all things Marvel in the last 2 years and desperately trying to catch up – not only with the movies, but the shows as well. I think we’re entering a new era of Marvel that’s going to take us out of this weird slump we’ve been in. The Infinity Saga was such a phenomenal run and we’re trying to keep that momentum going but something is definitely missing. I know that many people haven’t enjoyed the new Marvel shows that have come out, but personally I’ve enjoyed every single one that I’ve watched. When I first saw Echo on Hawkeye, I knew she was going to be a character that I needed to learn more about. She was tough, fierce, and captivating on screen (which clearly shows in the Echo trailer). It’s very unfortunate that this show didn’t receive much promo but I’m hoping that it delivers action packed episodes.
Sitcom
There’s nothing quite like going to sleep with a sitcom playing in the background. This one in particular has been on my watch later for years!!! Recently, I was talking with my friend and she brought up Fran’s outfits. All of a sudden, my entire FYP was full of people recreating some of her iconic looks from the show. I’m taking this as a sign that I need to finally watch The Nanny. I love a good modern looking sitcom but there’s something so nostalgic and cozy about the muted yet vibrant colors of a 90s production. And I predict this one is going to be a five star watch.
Reality
My hyperfixation is back!!!!! Most of you know I am absolutely madly in love with this series. I have watched every season of every country and I cannot get enough. I have been feeling empty since the last season and this lineup of people is sure to be a whirlwind. I think The Traitors is just one of those shows that can go on for a hundred seasons and still be as good as the first. I also love the different dynamics of every country and how unique they are from each other. I’m also very excited because I’m taking a class this semester that’s sort of like a murder mystery so it’s the perfect time to release a new Traitors season.
(While editing this I found out that a new season of Traitors UK will also be premiering at the same time!!!)
Competition
Speaking of school, I’m very excited for one class in particular: fashion law!! Growing up I was obsessed with fashion. I pretty much watched every season of America’s Next Top model, built a website for my own fashion magazine, learned how to sew because I wanted to be a fashion designer, and I obviously binged Project Runway. Needless to say, fashion is definitely something I love keeping up with and I can’t wait to see how the law and fashion intertwine. When picking my competition show for the quarter, I just knew I needed to bring this show back into my repertoire. I’ll be watching season 16 which is considered one of the best seasons of the show.
Anime
Since I already have a lot of action packed shows, I figured I should go with a different genre for this selection (even though dystopian sci-fi is basically the same thing). As I mentioned earlier, I’m fairly new to the anime world but I came across this show while I was trying to figure out what to watch and it looks promising. I haven’t heard much about Tengoku Daimakyo from the anime lovers in my life but I’m hoping that it reels me into this world.
Catch Up
I haven’t watched Abbott Elementary since the season 2 finale and now we’re 5 seasons deep!!!! I can’t believe how quickly time flies and I’m so happy with all the success this show has had. I’m considering starting the whole show over again to get the full picture, but I’m so eager to get to certain parts that I wouldn’t mind picking it right back up on season 3.
Rewatch
A couple months ago I told my friend to pick up this show because it’s one of my favorites. Greek follows these siblings trying to navigate college and frat life and all the messiness that comes with that. I used to rewatch this show every single year since I was in high school but I haven’t in the past two years and I absolutely miss it. Something about an ABC Family drama just really captures you and makes you want to return for more. Honestly, I wish we could go back to when Freeform was ABC Family so TV can go back to its prime.
What are some shows you’re excited to watch this year?
This might be the best show rotation I’ve done so far. I’m super excited to watch all of these and I feel like they blend well with a lot of the things I’ll be focused on at the start of the year. Out of the 9 shows, I’m most excited for The Traitors (no surprise there) and Greek. I just know they’re both going to be such a fun watch while I try to survive spring semester.
